Mayou ishi (迷う意志)
MDF board, Oil Paint, 244 x 122 cm
Lost Will is an experience based on the reflection of the past, present, and future, as well as the choices that have and have not yet been made. Inspired by the pilgrimage trail Kumano Kodo, the continuous motion of walking and internal reflection lead one to ponder the things that are or are not there and the need and greed for materialism. Influenced by meditation, Buddhist, and Shinto religious art, ‘Mayou Ishi’ expresses the thoughts, troubles, and choices swirling and clinging to the mind. It captures the steady rhythm of walking through the old, silent, still-winter forests of Wakayama Prefecture, Japan.
